Barbara Joan “Barbra” Streisand, 1942 Brooklyn, New York City, to a Jewish family. Mother who was a soprano in her youth but became a school secretary and father high school teacher at the same school. The father died in 1942 and the family was near-poverty, their mother working as a low-paid bookkeeper.
Their career started in nightclubs, Broadway, and theatres in the early 1960s and guest appearances on various television shows. Signed to Columbia Records and retain full artistic control at lower pay in exchange for it. Crating, a career that spanning six decades, achieved resounding success in all the fields of entertainment.
