Joseph-Ignace Guillotin was not the inventor of the Guillotine. But because he proposed on 10 October 1789 of a special device to carry out executions in a more humane manner rather other gruesome methods popular at the time. Ironically, he was later executed by one.  It was commonly referred to by the French as the National-Razor.
