
CLR James
Cyril Lionel Robert James (1901 – 1989) pen-name J. R. Johnson. A historian, journalist, Trotskyist activist and Marxist writer. His works are a staple of Marxism, an influential voice in postcolonial literature. Author 1937 work World Revolution, outlining the Communist International, stirred debate in Trotskyist circles. Later wrote a book, The Black Jacobins, about the Haitian Revolution.
