1937 – 2005 American journalist and author. Prominence with Hell’s Angels 1967 book living with them writes a first-hand account. Creating his own subgenre of Journalism called “Gonzo”, where the writer becomes a central figure that narrates.
Known for use of alcohol and illegal drugs and love of firearms, and his iconoclastic contempt for authority. He often remarked: “I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.” Hunter S Thompson shot himself at 67, after being informed of a series of health problems.
