There you are right in the middle of a ritual. Unwillingness to participate in something that everyone makes out is natural. Part of some life that everyone should want. Though, you see how ridiculousness it all is. Each character in the whole event pretends as to who they are, what liars they are. They all attempt to fabricate something meaningful, when virtually everyone ultimately wants to be the centre of conversation and admiration for that moment.
