Barbecue
The sun is an important character in this story. In the first frame, he there conspired with the birds to wake up Gun Goo. This frame is there to finish the birds off before consumption, and the last frame is to protect himself from harmful rays.
I do not know whether it is possible to actually be able to barbecue birds in the Sun. Most likely you would be curing them like jerky, but for the sake of the plot, the light of the sun was a helpful character to finish off the birds.
