Aquarium the Latin root aqua, meaning ‘water’, with the suffix -arium, meaning ‘a place for relating to’. The first instruction manual for starting your own was called ‘The Aquarium: An Unveiling of the Wonders of the Deep Sea’ written by Philip Henry Gosse in 1854.
